The attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya by fans moments before the Harambee Stars' match against Gabon at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday is regrettable, describes Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi

The Prime CS while condemning the incident, stressed that political intolerance threatens the core principles of democracy.

"The incident involving Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium is deeply regrettable. We won’t always see eye to eye, and that’s perfectly fine. However, respect, dialogue, and unity must always be upheld," he stated.

The Prime CS urged citizens to safeguard national unity, warning that allowing division to take root could undermine the country's progress.

Mudavadi urged Kenyans to shy away from incidences that could cause unforgettable regret in future.

"Fellow Kenyans, no one else will build this nation for us. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build. A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it," he added.

During the Sunday incident, MP Salasya was among the spectators at the fully packed Harambee Stars vs. Gabon match when he was confronted by a group of rowdy youths.

In a widely circulated amateur video, Salasya, dressed in an AFC Leopards jersey, is seen being forcefully shoved by the agitated crowd, which pushed him toward the stadium’s exit.

Some individuals in the crowd were seen hurling objects at Salasya, while a few attempted to shield him from the attack.

In another video, police officers are captured intervening, swiftly escorting the legislator away from the agitated crowd. However, the mob followed closely, with some chanting, “Lazima aheshimu Raila.”( “He must respect Raila.”)

Salasya, on his social media pages, says that he will continue to speak loudly as an agent of change in Kenya and blamed supporters of his political rivals for sponsoring the chaos.
